HTB appoints Fyffe as Lending Director for South

Hampshire Trust Bank (HTB) has appointed Dan Fyffe as lending director within its development finance team, strengthening its coverage of brokers and SME developers across the South.

Fyffe (main picture, inset) brings more than 20 years of banking experience to the role, including 17 years specialising in property and development finance.

He joins HTB from Mizrahi Tefahot Bank, where he was a relationship manager responsible for managing a portfolio of property clients alongside originating and structuring new lending opportunities.

Prior to that, Fyffe spent nine years at Shawbrook Bank, progressing from assistant relationship manager to relationship director within its development finance team.

He joined Shawbrook to help establish its development finance operation and subsequently sourced, structured and completed transactions ranging from £1m to £35m.

DEVELOPMENT FINANCE TEAM EXPANDS

Fyffe will report to Rob Syrett, head of originations, development finance at HTB, and work with brokers and developers across the South.

His appointment forms part of the specialist bank’s continued expansion of its development finance team, with HTB focusing on adding experienced lenders capable of structuring transactions and supporting developers throughout the lifecycle of a scheme.

Fyffe says: “What attracted me to HTB was that it is an established bank but still has a practical and flexible approach to development finance.

“I’ve worked in this market for a long time and conditions never stand still. What matters is listening to brokers and developers, understanding what they are trying to achieve and applying commercial judgement to find a sensible way forward. That approach really resonated with me.

“HTB also has a strong reputation among people I’ve worked with in the market over the years, so joining the team felt like a natural fit. I’m looking forward to getting out into the market and working with brokers and developers across the South.”

‘EXPERIENCE AND JUDGEMENT REALLY MATTER’

Syrett says: “Developers are scrutinising schemes more closely and being increasingly selective about where they commit their capital. In that environment, experience and judgement from a lender really matter.

“You need people who can understand a scheme properly at the outset, but who also recognise that costs, timings and circumstances can change as it moves through delivery.

“Dan has worked across that whole journey. He understands the importance of structuring a deal properly, staying close to the developer and knowing the detail so that, when something does change, you can have the right conversations early and make good decisions.

“We’re growing quickly, but we’re doing it deliberately. The focus is on adding experienced people who understand developers, understand the market and can make good lending decisions. Dan gives us more depth in the South and is another important part of the team we’re building across Development Finance.”
