Aspen adds two recruits to graduate scheme

Aspen has appointed two new recruits through its graduate recruitment scheme, as the lender continues to build its in-house underwriting and valuations teams.

Dev Shyamala has joined as graduate underwriter after achieving a 2:1 in science in economics at the University of Bath.

He becomes the 22nd alumnus to join Aspen’s graduate recruitment scheme and will undertake the lender’s internal training programme, covering the lending process as well as valuations, planning and legals.

Shyamala will also gain immediate underwriting experience, supporting the wider underwriting team while managing supervised caseloads.

Era Sella has also recently joined Aspen as trainee credit analyst after achieving a bachelor’s degree in money, banking and finance from the University of Birmingham.

As part of Aspen’s in-house valuations function, Sella will work towards RICS accreditations in residential and commercial valuation methodology.

Jack Coombs, chief operating officer at S&U PLC, Aspen’s parent company, has previously described the graduate recruitment scheme as a cornerstone of the business.

“Aspen said many of those who have joined through the programme now hold senior roles as the lender approaches £1 billion in total lending.

Coombs says: “Recently we were proud to announce that Saif Khalique, one of the very first to join through the GRS in 2019, had been promoted to a newly established Director of Underwriting role. Many others are also now sitting in prominent leadership positions.

“Dev and Era are joining a programme with a strong track record of developing talented people whilst giving them real responsibility in their roles, and we’re pleased to have them join in what is an exciting chapter for the business.”
